The May 10, 2006 “Dining & Wine” section of the New York Times carried a story by Florence Fabricant entitled, “Essence of Fruit, No Peel, No Chewing.”  Blueberry raspberry, 100% fruit, puree in a pouch, labeled “Easy 4 Busy” or “E4B” is produced in Belgium.  It can be used in a multitude of ways.  Add to water for a quick fruit drink.  Pour over ice cream or use to garnish a dessert.  According to the article, “Made only with fruit and fruit concentrates and are not too sweet.  They are $4.99 each at Kings Super Markets in New Jersey and Long Island.”

PepsiCo UK’s Tropicana brand is launching Blueberry Blend as part of its “Pure Premium” line.  “Tropicana said its blend of blueberry, grape, and apple juice was timely because recent publicity had raised awareness of the health benefits of the blue fruit, which is an excellent source of antioxidants,” according to an article in UK’s Grocer magazine (2/25/06, p. 62) titled, “Tropicana goes blue with superfruits.”

Health Valley® has Empower™,  touted on the label as "the most complete breakfast cereal."  According to the label the cereal "meets American Heart Association food criteria for saturated fat and cholesterol.  The product contains freeze-dried blueberries.  Per the label also contains omega-three, antioxidants, calcium, folic acid, fiber, iron, zinc and 7 B vitamins.

 

Extra Dark Hershey's Chocolate (60% cacao dark chocolate) is described as "Pure Dark Chocolate with Cranberries, Blueberries & Almonds."  The 3.52 oz. Sparkling Blueberry Juice by Trader Joe's (Monrovia, CA) comes in a 25.4 fl oz (750 ml) container.  The product is 100% juice and contains concentrates from blueberry, apple, pear and white grape juice.

 

Northern Gold Foods Ltd. (Port Coquitlam, BC Canada) has a breakfast granola called Raspberry and Blueberry.  "The Breakfast Company" label says "Good source of fiber, no artificial flavors and colors, low sodium....a lively combination of fruit and grains." 

Here is a beverage we ran into at the Kidsfaire in Del Mar, Calif.  It is Kern's Banana Blueberry Nectar!  It was part of a banner advertising Kern's products.  While they didn't have any for tasting the beverage sounds delicious.

 

Tree Top Blueberry Blackberry is 100% juice from 7 juice concentrates.  Comes in a 10 fl oz (295 ml) single serving plastic screw top bottle.

 

Deerfield Farms (Deerfield, IL) has two "Snackin' Healthy" products with blueberries -- Trail Mix and Flax Granola Bites. The trail mix is   noted as  "low in fat, all natural, no cholesterol, no trans or saturated fats.  The 2.5 oz package is described as "Heart Healthy."  The Flax Granola Bites contain "omega - 3's & 6's, good source of bier, natural source of antioxidants, no trans or saturated fats."  It comes in a 3 oz. package and is described as "All Natural."  The products are distributed by Walgreen Co.

Jamba Juice Company has a line of energy drinks including Acai Supercharger™  which contains frozen blueberries with purple acai fruit, a South American specialty.  Both berries are sources of antioxidants. 

Dunkin Donuts® (Canton MA) has introduced blueberry flavored ice coffee under the name, Turbo Ice.  While we don't have details regarding the blueberry format that is used in the coffee, we are intrigued by the idea.

Blueberry Crumb is one of three new items of SMH Fine Foods, Inc., (Boston, MA) baker of Hurley's Boston Soda Breads.  According to onlypunjab.com (11/13/04), "You will love the way a rich layer of streusel navigates its way throughout a maze of fresh plump blueberries..."  The bread is available in 1.25 lb. and 2.5 lb. loaves.

President's Choice® Blueberry Cheesecake Crunch Cookie consists of crunchy oatmeal sandwich cookies with creamy blueberry cheesecake filling.  Two cookies (32 g) contain 160 calories.  The cookies contain concentrated blueberry juice and blueberries. 

Creamed Blueberry Honey spread for toast and bagels is a blend of honey and "pure blueberries."  It is sold by Old North State Apiaries in 12 oz. jars.  A review on the website (www.beeguys.com) says, "It has the consistency of a light nut butter and is a lovely bluish honey color and it smells wonderful."

(Minneapolis, MN) line up.  The container retails at 89 cents and comes in a 6 oz size.  Dairy Foods (June 2004, p. 26) describes the introduction of Yoplait® UltraT (General Mills, MN) as ready-to-eat, "creamy, fruity cultured dairy option with 70% fewer carbohydrates and sugar than regular low-fat yogurt."  One of the four varieties is Blueberry Crème.
